Game Reviews
- Call of Duty: World at War
- Plants vs. Zombies
- Half-Life 2: Episode One
The single player game lasts about 5-6 hours. You alternate between a US and a Russian soldier as you right the Japanese and the German Nazis. The missions were fun, and while the SP game is fairly short the action is very intense and with about 20 missions it feels alot longer than the time you will put into it.
The multiplayer is where the game shines imo. You get experience points for kills and will gradually level up and unlock new guns and new perks. There are also challenges (equivalent of steam achievements) that give extra experience points. This is a cheap way to keep you playing but it works, and the pros are that it encourages you to master every single weapon instead of sticking to the ones most easy to use for your gaming style. This in turn encourages you to learn different styles of gameplay based on the map/weapon configuration you're playing with.
So far I've only played Team Deathmatch and Deathmatch, and they are both very fun game types. I should probably have waited till I play more of the game to post a full review, but since I'm going off to school and am not bringing my rig with me I'd be best post my thoughts and then edit later on down the road.
This game has a great userbase, so you will always find a game.
The arcade-like gameplay is addictive and is not frustrating or hard to get into.
I would recommend this game for someone who would enjoy an arcade style multiplayer FPS.
I like this game a lot, but I don't agree with all the hype and praise towards this game. The game works as a low requirements time killer game that you can pick up and play for 10 minutes as a break from your work. It's fun for what it is, but it's only simplistic arcade game, which imo does not deserve an 8.9 average score.

The game has an unexpectedly long play time. There are 5 stages which each have 10 levels. Each stage adds an extra element from the previous one to make the game more strategic. Each level takes on average about 5 minutes, some a bit longer.
The game doesn't end there though. Once you beat the main game, you can unlock Survival Modes, 2 different 'puzzle' mini games which both have 10 levels, and 20 unique Mini Games.
I clocked in 16 hours total from this game while distracting myself from my finals. By then I'd completed the main game once, and started it over (it increases difficulty on the second playthrough) and went halfway through again before realizing I had gotten bored of the game. I had played every Mini Game and completed the Puzzle games.
I would not play this on a desktop, and don't think I will replay it on a laptop, but it was good fun while it lasted. Hope my opinion helps you decide on this purchase.
I finished the game in one day, clocking in at just over 4 hours. It was a fun, worthwhile experience. I'll give you a short review for a short game:
- Simple repetitive 'puzzles' won't frustrate you for long
- No epic boss fights
- Flows like reading a book, or watching a movie
- The first half of the game you are stuck with the gravity gun as your only 'weapon'
- Entire game played co-op with NPC player Alyx. Her AI is very well programmed
I give this game 4 thumbs up :)
I will start blabbing now. This is filler because I am under the word count even though I've said all the basics you'll want to know. You can ignore the rest of this review.
other notes:
- The beginning can be kind of boring, because you only have the gravity gun and it is kind of repetitive.
- The game does not really end on a climax, so it might shock you that it's already over, if you didn't know beforehand to expect around 4 hours of gametime.
- When will episode 3 come out? It's been years, and still nothing.. :/
